  • MS Dhoni has also joined the CSK camp in Surat

Chennai Super Kings are one of the most popular Indian Premier League teams going around and the reception they received in Surat is a testimony to it. Fans queued up on the streets to catch a glimpse of MS Dhoni and CSK stars as the defending champions began their training in the West Indian state of Gujarat.

In a video shared by Chennai Super Kings, MS Dhoni can be seen walking into the stadium for their training session at Surat amid much fanfare. The team bus, the trademark one in yellow, was flocked by fans as they headed to the stadium from the team hotel. A fan was even spotted with the Chennai Super Kings jersey on the streets.

“Those eyes that smile with love give us the joy, everywhere we go!” CSK wrote while sharing the video of fans cheering the team in Surat.

Chennai Super Kings are among the first few teams to begin training for the 10-team IPL season. The likes of captain MS Dhoni, Ambati Rayudu, KM Asif have been training in Surat while bowling coach L Balaji was also spotted at the venue during training in photos shared by the franchise.

U-19 World Cup star Rajvardhan Hangargekar, who was bought for Rs 2 crore, has also joined the camp in Surat.

It remains to be seen if CSK will have the services of Deepak Chahar as the pacer suffered a serious hamstring injury during the T20I series against Sri Lanka last month. CSK paid Rs 14.25 crore to secure the services of Chahar at the IPl 2022 mega auction.

CSK will open their campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai which will also be the opening match of the 10-team IPL 2022.

Notably, CSK picked Surat as their venue for training as the solid used three is quite similar to the one in Mumbai where the 4-time champions will be playing most of their matches.

Dhoni’s men will look to defend the IPL title. The former India captain led Chennai to their 4th title in 2021 as they had bounced back from a horror season in 2020 in the UAE.
